So you want to hire union labor? Well, I had a project that relied on the very last electrical connection to be done by a licensed electrician. So the general hired a "union" electrician. The whole job was done amazingly well. Self employed small business owner made the sign, self employed install guy put it up and it looks amazing, but, it doesn't light up. You guessed it, the union electrician. Well, he decided to call in sick the day before NYE. Even better, his union shop didn't even bother to call me, just rescheduled it for a week later. If I wasn't open for business this wouldn't be a big deal, but now my sign will go dark for an 5 extra days because a union run shop doesn't know how to handle a business where employees are encouraged to call in sick, go on strike and do work they're not held accountable for. I guess if you like people not showing up, not comunicating with you when they don't and would like to pay A LOT more for that then please, hire union!
